HOW TO COMBAT AGING (AND LOOK GOOD DOING IT)

In life, there are a number of things we know cannot be avoided: jury duty, taxes, and aging. Of course, we clever humans have figured out small ways to bend the rules to make life on earth a little bit more comfortable. While there’s nothing we can do to totally reverse aging (at least until someone like Elon Musk figures it out) there are plenty of methods beyond clean skincare for men to look and feel younger. Here are five easy ways to get started.

1. CARE ABOUT CLEAN SKIN CARE FOR MEN

Your face says a lot about you. A well-groomed mustache implies a trailblazer -- the kind of guy who goes big, goes home, comes back, and goes bigger. Clean skincare means more than washing your face every morning and moisturizing. It means joining a movement that recognizes utilizing naturally-derived ingredients in lieu of ones that are perceived as toxic. That’s why we stay away from ingredients that are incompatible with our natural biology.

Start by washing your face with a pH smart daily cleanser followed by moisturizer every morning (with SPF) and night. We know -- it’s a lot, but once you get into the routine it’ll feel as natural as eating breakfast. On a weekly level, try an exfoliant like our Deep Cleansing Facial Scrub. It improves skin texture, diminishes fine lines and wrinkles and can be pretty relaxing if you make a routine out of it.

2. FILL UP YOUR FRIDGE WITH HEALTHY FOOD

Alright, now for some bad news: that late-night pizza and whiskey combo isn’t doing too much for that handsome mug of yours. Go for fruit like vitamin-rich blueberries that contain an age-defying antioxidant called anthocyanin or snack on some broccoli -- a natural anti-inflammatory. We’re not saying you have to limit yourself to just raw fruits and veggies, but winning the war on aging means committing to an overall healthier lifestyle.

3. DON’T NEGLECT YOUR GUY BROWS AND BEARD

Hair loss isn’t a foreign concept for men. Hair loss of the eyebrows, on the other hand… it can really sneak up on you. Hey, we’ll be the first to admit that the concept of eyebrow care is still uncharted territory for a heck of a lot of men. Enter microblading: a modern eyebrow enhancement that uses a tattooing technique to add semi-permanent pigment to the skin under the brows. It seems like kind of a scary concept, but you’ll be blown away when you see how much younger you can look with thicker, fuller eyebrows to frame your handsome mug.

The same is to be said about a messy beard. The lumberjack look is a great vibe, but the cleaned-up lumberjack will take you way further. A good rule of thumb is to always trim below the Adam’s apple -- or if you don’t have one -- roughly in the middle of the neck. Use shave formula to hydrate your skin for a smooth shave and Post Shave Elixir to heal cuts, calm redness and minimize razor bumps and ingrown hairs.

4. PLEASE EXERCISE

At this point, there’s no doubt you know about the many, many, many benefits of just ten minutes of physical activity per day. Exercise and skin health go together like peanut butter and jelly or whiskey and pizza; a match made in heaven. Cardio increases blood flow, bringing much-needed oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. Not only does daily exercise feed your cells, but it actively helps detox your body of waste and free radicals. So, join a gym or just go outside for a run. Your skin will thank you.

5. PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE SUN

When the sun’s out, the last thing you want to be doing is sitting inside like a hermit. Don’t worry -- you don’t have to. Getting into the habit of applying sunscreen or an SPF moisturizer is the best anti-aging defense for your skin. We recommend wearing an SPF 15 daily and opting for SPF 30+ if you’re spending more than 30 minutes in the direct sunlight. Modern day technology makes today’s SPF lightweight and wears like an everyday moisturizer.

Remember that sun damage is cumulative, meaning the more you expose your skin to the sun the more likely you are to get anything from premature wrinkles, dark spots, to dangerous types of skin cancers.  So lather up with the best face wash you’ve got, apply a layer of moisturizer and maybe try a wide-brimmed hat.
